Volunteering is Every Bit as Rewarding as Running

I ran the Fort4Fitness 4 Mile in 2009.  It was my first race ever.  At the time, running four miles consecutively seemed like one of the most difficult experiences I could ever put myself through.  Then I did it, and I loved the feeling of accomplishment at the end, so I set a goal to run the half marathon the next year. While I struggled a bit around mile 10, I set a goal to break 2 hours in my first half marathon ever, and I crossed the finish line one minute in front of my goal.  I thoroughly enjoyed running the event each year, and planned on continuing to do so.  In training for the half in 2013 I injured my Achilles.  It wasn’t terrible, but bad enough so I couldn’t run.  I inquired about volunteering and here we are! 2012 was officially the last year I ran Fort4Fitness. I still enjoy running, but the feeling of assisting with the event and watching the determination and positivity of those reaching their fitness goals is every bit as fulfilling as running the event yourself.  While a lot of work goes into it (more than I ever could have imagined before getting involved) volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and feel like you played a part in the largest running event in the Greater Fort Wayne region.  We need over 1,000 volunteers to make F4F happen each year, and you can be one of them!  We look forward to another great event this year, and having you be a part of it, so sign up today!
